JUNE NEWSLETTER - YEAR-END INFORMATION

Message from Administration

It’s hard to believe that the 2023-2024 school year is almost over! We have really enjoyed teaching and learning with your children this year. We want to take this opportunity to wish all of our students moving on to IVHS or other schools all the best. We know you will do great things and continue to make us proud. We also want to welcome our new students coming up to EPEC from Seaside. We hope students and their families enjoy a safe and enjoyable summer break and we look forward to getting to know you in the Fall.

Sincerely,

School Administration

New Provincial Cell Phone Policy

As many families have already heard the new Provincial Cell Phone Policy will be implemented in schools across the Province starting in September 2024. This Policy mandates that student cell phones be stored in lockers throughout the instructional day.

We will also be insisting that air pods and head phones are also stored in the lockers throughout the day.

These policies are in place to minimize disruptions to the learning environment and encourage student engagement.

We will share more information with you in the fall regarding how this Policy will be operationalized at EPEC. In the meantime, we appreciate you having conversations with your children over the summer about this expectation leading into the start up of our new school year.

Class Changes

Staff members at EPEC spend a considerable amount of time designing class lists for the upcoming school year. We aim to create balanced classes based on the needs of our students. Given this, we will not be making changes to these lists once they are finalized. We appreciate you speaking to your children about the benefits of being in a different class and the skills to build new friendships.

Lunch Monitor Recruitment

We are currently recruiting community members to come to EPEC and work as a lunch monitor in the fall. This is a paid position, and the hours are 12:20-1:20, Monday to Friday. If you are interested in helping support our students in having a safe and enjoyable lunch hour, please reach out to the school for more information. Please note all new employees require an up to date criminal records check with vulnerability sector check as well as a completed child abuse registry form.

School Wide Rules

We want to thank all students for following our school wide rules. These rules are grounded in safety and are expected to be followed at school. We would appreciate you speaking to your children about these rules prior to the beginning of the year to help ensure a smooth transition back.
